Chapter Two (unfinished)

I thought it would be a good idea to take Hatter out for a bit. Distract him from the thoughts and things that are causing him such distress. The cool air is refreshing. We are heading to Scintillization, the main city hear in Wonderland. They have many restaurants, many of which serve plenty of tea -Hatter's favorite.

I glance to my left. Hatter is walking beside me, seemingly lost in the wanderings of his own mind. As the grass surrenders to our footsteps and leaves drops of dew on our shoes, I think of my best friend. What has become of him. Whenever I look into his eyes, all I see is pain and confusion. A once great man who has now lost himself. I would give anything to turn back the clock. To remove this weight of guilt that hangs over him.

"Bibwit, do you ever wonder," Hatter begins to muse, "How far Wonderland reaches?"

I think for a moment. "Well, I have never reached an end, I assure you. I suppose it is quite large."

"I suppose. Or maybe. Maybe we are always at the edge."

"Come again?"

"Well, suppose, if the land stretched out before us constantly. So that we would never reach the end. One could walk forever and never see the end of Wonderland." He looks on, as if searching to see if, in fact, he could see the edge. I my mouth stretches into a smile. This may be a fantastic idea but it is not nearly so unthinkable. I'm happy to see my friend so content.

We reach Weaving Willow Pass. Every time I come here, it still leaves me transfixed. The way the rich, green willows weave up and down, over and under the path way. It is so breathtakingly beautiful. From what I make of Hatter's expression, he feels the same way. We walk wordlessly through the pass, taking in the sight.

The landscape is almost completely green. Taken over by the shad of the willows. The only spots of color are made by small patches of singing flowers. They are quite lovely. Not too many of them are seen outside of Scintilization. Sometimes seeds manage to find there way outside of the city's gardens and into the wilder parts of Wonderland. Their soft melody fades as we walk past.

"Oh look," I say as we approach the end of Weaving Willow Pass. "There. I can see the path to Scintillazation."

"Yes," Hatter replies.

"The river must be just up ahead."

We slowly approach the caterpillar bridge.
